Leading this year’s winners was Aicha by Sanaa El Alaoui (Morocco), which emerged as the most awarded film of the evening, receiving Best Women Short, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.

Centered on a mother and daughter separated by unspoken pain and tragedy, the film combines emotional depth, spiritual symbolism, and a distinctive visual language to deliver a powerful meditation on grief and renewal.

Best Indie Short Goes to Sweet Molly

The festival’s highest honor, Best Indie Short, was awarded to Sweet Molly by J.C. McNaughton (USA).

Set within a fundamentalist religious community, the film combines psychological tension, supernatural intrigue, and emotional drama through the story of a young woman confronting truths that threaten to upend her world.

Major Multi-Award Winners

Another major winner of the evening was Postman by Faizan Anees Bazmee (India), which earned both Best Drama Short and Best Cinematography. Set against the backdrop of political unrest in Kashmir, the film follows a postman whose routine life is transformed by a mysterious letter, weaving together themes of duty, resilience, hope, and the unexpected ways a single message can alter the course of a life.

Brown Hare (USA) also delivered a strong showing in the performance and directing categories, securing Best Female Director for MK McGehee and Best Actress for Emily Goss. Blending psychological tension with elements of horror and thriller storytelling, the film explores trauma, identity, and survival through a deeply personal lens, creating an atmospheric and emotionally charged cinematic experience.
