The greatest challenge humanity faces is feeding the world’s human population in a sustainable, nutritious, equitable and ethical way under a changing climate. Urgent transformations are needed that allow farmers to adapt and develop while also being climate resilient and contributing minimal emissions. Sicilian farmers, producers and tourism operators are using biodiversity and sustainable practices to do their individual part but there is a lack of coordination to find a common solution. While technology offers hope and opportunity, it also creates risks and trade-offs that exacerbates food insecurity, especially in the context of an uncertain future. Vulnerable groups such as women and the youth must not be left behind. L’anima della Sicilia calls for a unified approach towards addressing the environmental crisis combining top-down and bottom-up processes without leaving anyone behind.
