Chen Weiyi, a laid-off worker, became a fortune teller under the guidance of fate. In the ancient city, he relied on ancient wisdom to guide the confused modern people. He was convinced that “peace is a blessing”, but he also soberly knew that his craft was just a kind of “probability”. When the traditional compass is inferior to accurate electronic devices, and when his stall is driven away by the city management in the name of “regulation”, the world on which he lives is collapsing. “Peeping into the Sky” calmly stares at this little person in the gap between tradition and modernity, revealing a microcosm of contemporary China struggling between science and superstition, faith and survival.
