”Resqueue” began when the visual artist and animal activist Radu Nastasia started documenting the rescue work he was already part of. By following his own actions and those of his fellow rescuers, he became both participant and observer, and ultimately, the director of this film.
Red, a rescued cat with an adoption offer in Switzerland is taken from his foster home and driven to the airport by Radu and his fellow rescuer Ileana. Red leaves behind Axi, his sad foster companion, a male cat with neurological issues who still waits for a home. On the way to the airport, the film weaves in retrospective sequences of rescues and the many impediments the rescuers face.
There are no interviews or narration in the documentary, allowing each viewer to encounter their own vignette of the fragile and often chaotic world of animal rescue in Bucharest, where every solved case comes at the cost of many others still waiting.
What begins as a single trip becomes a portrait of emotional logistics, burnout, and real-time decisions under pressure. Each saved life is a small victory against a system of neglect where the queue behind never shortens.
