

The Baker had control. She remained the only producer to survive the Great Plague. Enslaving those who were in debt to her, she had a monopoly on wheat and flour. The bread had mystical healing powers that the war ravaged town desperately needed. It was the only relief they had from disease. Her bread was life. And, from her hands the rich and desolate alike snatched what they could. Those less fortunate were forced to prey upon each other.
