To Ellie, her local Laundromat was a dull, mundane sort of place, nothing more than a representation of her monotonous and unsatisfying life. Yet, following a year of suffering, uncertainty and isolation, Ellie returns to the place she once disregarded to find a world of unexpected beauty, nostalgia, and understanding. Her perspective transformed, Ellie realizes that beauty, happiness, and purpose are not distant, elusive goals, but things we must find in what we already have, wherever we go, and within ourselves.
