The Linguistics of Infinite Torture

Two men discover a corpse that looks exactly like one of them, and they soon suspect they’re trapped in a video game. To survive, they must figure out the obscure rules of the game while struggling with the idea that reality itself is a simulation. As they try to level up and escape, they must also face the truths of their own lives.

One of the first films written in collaboration with a neural network AI, director Tyler Oliver’s experimental short takes full advantage of AI’s talent for recursively exploring the surreal and darkly comedic. The Linguistics of Infinite Torture is both a humorous and a disturbing glimpse of a future where we can no longer trust our own perceptions, and reality itself is impossible to define.

Directed by Tyler Oliver (USA)
